Roll top Stainless steel bread box

Francois et Mimi roll top stainless steel

Bread boxes were a household kitchen item, until bread started being made commercially, with preservatives. Bread boxes are frequently used by those who buy fresh bread, or bake bread at home.

According to wikipedia.Com bread does not go stale by drying out. It goes stale by retrogradation,  in which the starch transposes to a crystalline form, in the presence of the water contained in the bread. This process speeds up at cooler temperatures, this is why bread gets harder when placed in the refrigerator.  Freezing, halts this process.

 Breadbox are designed to:
■ Keep their contents at room temperature,  prolonging edible storage time.
■ Have a lid loose enough to allow airflow  reducing condensation,  which helps prevent mold
■ have a tight enough lid to protect from mice and all other pests

This bread box combines the look of stainless steel with the timeless black look .
The top is easy to roll up and down. The rubber stops keep the lid from being loud when shutting it. The bottom has rubber, to keep your countertop from being scratched.

Bread boxes are perfect for those who buy fresh bread, or make fresh bread. A bread box can keep fresh bread for up to 3 days.
If fresh bread is pit in a plastic bag, humidity will cause the crust to be soggy and chewy.

Bread has to breathe in order for the crust to stay crisp.  Putting fresh bread in a bag, causes the bread to produce moisture. If put in a bread box,  the humidity produced by the bread rises, and air circulation keeps it from getting moist. If left in a paper bag, the bread will dry out in about a day.

* If you buy fresh bread, throw away the paper bag it came in before putting it in your breadbox. The humidity causes the paper to get damp which us what causes soggy, chewy crusts.
* Do not overcrowd the bread box,  air circulation is important.  The more bread in the box, the higher the humidity,  making the bread less crisp.
